History of Elazig Airport

In 1960, the port was put into civilian use, but no renovation work was carried out until 1996 and continued to be used in its original form. In 1996, with the installation of a special lighting system on the old runway, which was paved with asphalt, the airport started to be used for night flights.

The 3000-meter new concrete runway, the foundation of which was laid in 2006 and completed in 2007, and on which the first THY plane landed in 2009, has made a great contribution to Elazig Airport. With the installation of in-airport VOR, NDB, DME and ILS devices for the newly constructed 07/25 runway in 2009, safe flights were ensured even in case of adverse weather conditions.

Founded in August 2010, the airport superstructure and terminal building was ready for service on October 20, 2012. On October 20, 2012, the new terminal building was put into service.
