Brescia-Montichiari Airport, named after Gabriele D’Annunzio, is an Italian airport located in Montichiari and serving the city of Brescia. Managed by Aeroporto Valerio Catullo di Verona Villafranca, the airport is part of the Save Group. Together with Treviso, Venice and Verona airports, it forms the airport hub of the North East. Cargo flights to Italy are mainly operated via this port.
Brescia-Montichiari airport is the main airmail sorting base of Poste Italiane. Mail and cargo flights of Alitalia and Poste Air Cargo depart and arrive every night. The airport also benefits from the intensification of cargo traffic thanks to a partnership agreement signed between Poste Italiane and Amazon. The cargo trend has further increased since March 2017 with the start of operations of SW Italia and Silk Way West Airlines (Silk Way Airlines group), which operate weekly flights between Brescia, Baku and Hong Kong. Since November 2018, the airport also welcomes cargo flights of the international courier DHL. In addition, the port is mainly used for private jet flights for business travel.

Brescia Airport history from 1915 to today
The airport was inaugurated between 8 and 20 September 1909 as an airfield in the Fascia d’Oro region, fenced off from the Montichiari steppes and equipped with airfields, workshops and grandstands for a special event. The Montichiari airport was opened to air traffic in 1915 as a base for aerostats; two years later the cargo facility was put into service. In 1919 the first terminal building was built.
The German Luftwaffe, through the Todt and Speer organisations, established a large military airfield system in the area, based at Montichiari, Ghedi and Sedena di Lonato. At Montichiari and Ghedi airports, parallel runways were built about three kilometres apart, accompanied by decentralised car parks and facilities along approximately fifty kilometres of links. At the end of World War II, the land and facilities were returned to the Italian Air Force and, at the same time, the presence of American troops on the ground led to a further strengthening of the facilities. In the following years, at the Montichiari aerodrome, which was returned to aviation state ownership and used for NATO requirements, the Air Force established the tactical missile unit, which later became a training unit.
In 1984, the headquarters of the Aero Club was transferred from Ghedi Airport to Montichiari. The development of Brescia airport in the civilian sphere was discussed for many years, but was not actually realised. The first opening took place in the mid-1970s, when the site was decommissioned by the Air Force and a consortium was formed to reconstruct and redevelop it; in May 1998 a memorandum of understanding was signed to open the airport to civil traffic. Another positive contingency was the need for the temporary closure of Verona airport for maintenance and restoration of the runway, so Montichiari airport was duly upgraded with new infrastructure and necessary equipment, such as a new control tower, a new air terminal for domestic and international passenger traffic, border police and fire-fighting facilities. The airport was opened to air traffic on 16 March 1999 and from the following day it started to receive all flights, taking over from Verona airport. In June 2000, the airline Ryanair started operating here with a stopover at London Stansted Airport and was joined by Air Dolomiti with domestic flights to Olbia and Rome.
From 23 August to 10 September 2018, the airport was closed for runway renovation works, the first part of a future business plan that includes the extension of the runway and the construction of new hangars and warehouses. Given the increase in cargo traffic and the further decrease in passenger numbers due to COVID-19 and its effects, 70 per cent of the terminal was converted into cargo storage in 2021
