Tivat Private Jet Charter

Tivat Airport is an international airport serving the coastal city of Montenegro, Tivat and its surroundings. The airport is located 3 km (1,9 miles) south of the center of Tivat and the runway is aligned with Tivat Field.

It is the busier of the two international airports in Montenegro, one of which is Podgorica Airport. The traffic at the airport follows the highly seasonal nature of the tourism industry in coastal Montenegro, and 80% of the total passenger volume arrives at Tivat Airport during the peak season (May-September). Almost all Private Jet Charter services prefer this airport for regional flights.

The aerodrome is located 8 km (5 miles) from the city center of nearby Tivat city center. Transportation to the Adriatic coast, which is one of the touristic places of the region, is via Tivat. The aerodrome’s single runway ends just 88 m (289 ft) from the Bay of Kotor coastline.

Landings at Tivat Airport are considered difficult due to the rough terrain and strong side winds surrounding the valley where the aerodrome is located. Passengers disembarking in Tivat enjoy views of the bay, the surrounding mountains and a low pass over the Porto Montenegro luxury marina. Since the end of the runway is easily accessible and offers unobstructed take-off and landing views with mountains in the background, the airport is often visited by aircraft watchers.

More than 80% of the traffic at the airport occurs during the summer period. With the introduction of seasonal and charter flights, and the introduction of other high-end tourism services, the airport hosts more and more business jets.

The regional importance and history of Tivat Airport

The airport in Tivat was opened on May 30, 1957 as a small airport with a single grass runway (1200 m × 80 m), a small apron (30 m × 30 m) and a terminal building complete with a control tower. From 1957 to 1968, the activity at the airport consisted mostly of JAT Douglas DC-3 and Ilyushin IL-14 planes and domestic passenger traffic to Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje.

From 1968 to 1971, the airport went through expansion and modernization. It was reopened on September 25, 1971 with an asphalt runway (2500 m × 45 m), larger apron (450 m × 70 m), extended taxiways, and a completely new passenger terminal and control tower. After the 1979 earthquake, the airport was renewed once again. In particular, the apron was enlarged (460 m × 91,5 m) and the taxiways were extended, thus making the airport capable of handling wide-body aircraft.

On April 23, 2003, the ownership of the airport was transferred from Jat Airways to the “Montenegro Airports” public company of the Montenegrin government. Since then, the aerodrome has been modernized and renovated once again. On June 3, 2006, the reconstructed passenger terminal opened. In October 2007, South Korea made a government donation of 1 million dollars for a new airport equipment ranging from cargo loaders to flight information display system.

Strong growth continued throughout the year as passenger traffic in the mid-2010s approached one million. The passenger terminal was becoming a bottleneck during the busy summer months. Therefore, in the near future, plans have begun to be made for further expansion of airport facilities, as well as a new passenger terminal at Tivat Airport.

In December 2018, Prime Minister Duško Marković inaugurated the newly built Terminal 2 at Tivat Airport.
