History of Marrakech Menara Airport

The aerodrome was used by the US Army Air Transport Command during the World War II for cargo, transit aircraft and personnel. After the war, it started to serve for civil aviation.

Built between 2006 and 2008, the extension of the main airport terminal in Marrakech, Morocco, combines modern and traditional elements. Islamic motifs on the arabesques adorning the walls complement the high ceiling and the light-filled atmosphere inside. The extension increased the airport’s capacity to 4,5 million passengers per year and increased to 9 million with the opening of another terminal in 2016.
