Brief history of Konya Airport
Konya Airport, which was built in addition to the 3rd Main Jet Base Command on October 29, 2000, started service on this date. The airport, which served only domestic flights at its opening, started international passenger flights on April 17, 2001 with the decision of the Council of Ministers.
After the start of international flights, the terminal building was restructured to serve both domestic and international passengers. While Konya Airport was affiliated to the Esenboğa Airport Operations Directorate for the first 2 years, it became affiliated with the State Airports Authority in 2002.
With the increase in passenger traffic, some additional buildings and development works were started on September 7, 2004 and were completed in the same year. Due to its barrier-free flight in air transportation and its sensitivity to the environment, Konya Airport is included in the “Barrier-Free Airport” and “Green Environment Airport” lists.
