What is the airport slot?

Slot is the permission allocated for a certain day and time for the relevant aeroplane, according to the density of the port where the flight is planned. The aerodrome slot application was launched in Turkey on March 28, 1993, by the Ministry of Transport. In our country, slot allocation procedures are carried out by DHMI (State Airports Authority). Flights should be planned considering this permitting process, which is applied at busy airports such as Bodrum and Antalya, especially in the summer season.

When was Antalya Airport established?

The airport was originally built for military use. It was used for the scheduled flights of Turkish Airlines, first with a small cabin, and with a terminal building of 300 square meters since 1960. The port was opened to international traffic in 1985. In parallel with the developments in domestic and international tourism, the construction of the airport’s first international terminal was started by Bayindir Holding in July 1996 and the terminal was put into service in April 1998. This terminal is the first airport terminal operation in Turkey where the build-operate-transfer model is used.

The construction and operation of the second international terminal was tendered by DHMI to manage the intense international passenger traffic of the region, the Celebi Holding-IC Holding consortium, which won the tender, started construction in May 2004 and the terminal became operational in April 2005.

In May 2007, the Fraport-IC consortium acquired the operating rights of the airport’s domestic and first international terminals, VIP and CIP terminals, and starting from 2009, the second international terminal, for €2,4 billion and with usage rights until the end of 2024.

The airport was deemed worthy of the “Europe’s Best Airport” award in 2011 in the “10-25 million passengers” category by the Airports Council International.
