Rize Artvin Airport is an airport serving Rize and Artvin provinces of Turkey. The port, which is the second airport built on the sea after Ordu Giresun Airport, is located within the borders of Pazar district of Rize.

Built on a 3 million m² area by filling the sea, the airport serves with a runway of 3 kilometers in length and 45 meters in width, three taxiways of 250 meters in length and 24 meters in width, and two aprons of 300×120 m and 120×120 m in size. The size of the terminal building is 32 thousand square meters, while other indoor areas are 15 thousand square meters in size. In reference to Rize culture, the entrance arch of the airport is shaped like a tea leaf, while the 36-meter high air traffic control tower is built in the shape of a tea cup. The airport has a Tea Museum, a VIP lounge for private jet passengers and a parking lot for 448 vehicles.

History of Rize Artvin Airport

The tender for the construction of the airport, originally scheduled for September 8, 2016, was canceled due to a change in the project. However, the tender was subsequently held on November 2, 2016 and won by the Cengiz İnşaat-Aga Enerji partnership, with a bid of 1.078 billion liras. The groundbreaking for the airport took place on April 3, 2017. A public information meeting was held for the environmental impact and assessment (EIA) report for the airport, which was built following a decision by the High Planning Council. Soil boring survey and bathymetric mapping studies were completed.

The project is estimated to cost a total of 750 million liras, of which 600 million liras were spent on infrastructure and 150 million liras on superstructure. The airport started test flights in April 2022, and the first scheduled flight was made on May 14, 2022 with 320 passengers, and the airport was officially inaugurated on the same day.
