History of Toulouse Blagnac Airport
Toulouse’s aviation history dates back to 1913, but it was not until 1928 that Blagnac Airport came into use as both a civil and commercial airport. The airport was much used by the factories south of St-Martin-du-Touch, but suffered considerable damage during the Second World War.
In the late 1940s, much of Toulouse Blagnac Airport was repaired and restored and the runway was extended to 2,500 meters. In 1953, the airport’s first passenger terminal was opened and additional improvements were made shortly afterwards to accommodate larger aircraft.
Over the next two decades the runway was further extended and in 1978 the secondary Blagnac 2 terminal was opened. More recent developments at Toulouse Blagnac Airport include the construction of a covered parking garage for 2,500 cars and an economy parking area (P5) opened in 2005.
