Stockholm Arlanda Airport is an international aerodrome located in Sigtuna Municipality, Sweden, near the town of Märsta, 37 kilometers north of Stockholm and approximately 34 kilometers southeast of Uppsala. The aerodrome is located in Stockholm County and the state of Uppland. Arlanda is the largest airport in Sweden and the third largest in Scandinavian countries. The aerodrome is the main gateway to international air travel for large parts of Sweden. Arlanda Airport was used by nearly 27 million passengers in 2017, of which 21,2 million were international passengers and 5,5 million were domestic passengers.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the larger of Stockholm’s two airports. The other airport, Stockholm – Bromma, is located in the northwest of the city center, but private jet charter services do not prefer this runway. History of Stockholm Arlanda Airport
The airport was first used for practical flights only in 1959. It was opened to limited civilian traffic in 1960 and was put into service with an official opening ceremony in 1962. From this date on, the facilities have assumed a key role for companies providing private jet chartering services. In the 1960s and 70s, there were more than expected increases in planned traffic. The Boeing 747 jumbojet began to be used in the 1970s for both scheduled one-time flights to New York and nonstop charters to the Canary Islands for the weekend. Domestic flights to Gothenburg, Malmö, Luleå and Kiruna were handled by SAS DC-9s from Arlanda as they were too noisy to be used in Bromma city centre. The rest of the domestic traffic went to Bromma and all the international traffic went out of Arlanda. In 1983, domestic traffic operated by Linjeflyg moved from Bromma to Arlanda using the terminal now known as Terminal 4. In 1990, two new domestic lines named “Domestic Lines 2 and 3” were built south of the first domestic terminal.
Expansion work continues
In early 2014, Swedavia announced plans to further expand the airport terminal complex, including the construction of an additional pier for Terminal 5 to better accommodate larger aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8, and to address estimates of rising passenger numbers. Within the framework of these plans, the constructions still continue today. As the main airport serving the Swedish capital, Arlanda is also frequently used by private planes.

What to eat in Stockholm? What are the places to visit?
Restaurants in Stockholm are more modest cuisines compared to other examples in the world. Instead of offering its own specialties, the city includes all the world cuisines. Gravad lax and Swedish meatballs, which are plenty on the menus in the Swedish region, are among the authentic flavors that should be tasted.
Gamla Stan, the old city district, and Sodermalm, the hipster district, are among the most interesting places to visit in the city, where each season offers different beauties. Shopping lovers may prefer Norrmalm, which is the city center. Djurgarden, known as the museums district, is also a must-visit point.
