South Korea Seul Incheon

After the 1988 Summer Olympics, international air traffic to Korea increased. In the 1990s, it became clear that Gimpo International Airport was unable to handle the increased air traffic. The government has decided to build a new international airport to reduce the load at Gimpo International Airport.

In November 1992, construction of Incheon airport began on the reclaimed land between Yeongjong Island and Youngyu Island and took eight years to complete.
