Peru Lima Private Jet Charter

Jorge Chávez International Airport is the main air terminal in the Lima metropolitan area. Although the airport is constitutionally located in the province of Callao, it is known as the main airport of the city of Lima. The port is the most important airport in Peru, hosting the vast majority of international and domestic flights in the country and serving more than 22,000,000 passengers a year.

Its strategic location in the middle of the west coast of South America has made it an important hub for the subcontinent. The port is notable for its prime location for connecting private jet flights between the Americas, and is thus experiencing continuous growth in passenger, cargo and mail flows.

Comparatively, it is the South American airport with the best connectivity with the rest of the Americas in terms of international flights, surpassing even others with higher passenger volumes. Peru’s recent signing of free trade agreements with different Asian countries opens up the possibility of the airport connecting to terminals in Asia and Oceania in the near future, and more connections with new cities are also expected.

Lima Airport history

Lima’s first airport was Limatambo Airport in San Isidro. It ceased operations in 1960 due to lack of space and capacity and was replaced by Lima-Callao International Airport. In June 1965, Lima-Callao airport was renamed “Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez” in honor of the famous Peruvian aviator Jorge Chávez Dartnell. In December 1965, the terminal building was officially inaugurated. At the time of its operation, the headquarters of Compañía de Aviación Faucett was located on the airport grounds.

In 2001, the Peruvian government placed the airport under the management of Lima Airport Partners (LAP) in order to improve and expand its infrastructure. LAP is currently composed of Fraport and the International Finance Corporation. Air traffic control is managed by the Airports and Commercial Aviation Authority of Peru (CORPAC). The Peruvian government appointed Jaime Malagón, Jerome Jakubik, Paul Slocomb and Víctor M. Marroquín of the international law firm Baker and McKenzie to oversee the changes.

In February 2005, the first phase of a new renovation and expansion project was completed. This included the Peru Plaza Shopping Center and a new concourse. In June 2007, a four-star hotel, Ramada Costa del Sol, opened at the airport.

In January 2009, the second phase of the terminal expansion was launched. The terminal has 28 gates, 19 of which have boarding bridges. In August 2009, the LAP announced that in 2010 the airport will have a new Instrument Landing System (ILS CAT III) to assist with fog landings. Arquitectonica, a Miami-based architecture office, and Lima Airport Partners have planned a second terminal and expansion of the main terminal.

On October 24, 2018, the Peruvian state handed over all the land for the expansion and modernization of Jorge Chavez airport to the airport operator “Lima Airport Partners”. The estimated investment of USD 1,200 million includes the construction of a new runway, control tower and passenger terminal in addition to the existing terminal. On the other hand, the state will build a new bridge and highway over the existing Santa Rosa Avenue, which will connect directly to the “Costa Verde” highway, benefiting the large number of tourists and entrepreneurs who will visit Miraflores and the south alone. The works will be completed in 4 years, by the beginning of 2025, and will allow the passage of 40 million travelers a year by 2030.
