Lyon Bron is France’s 3rd largest airport for commercial aviation. Located in the immediate vicinity of the city centre, Lyon-Bron airport offers access to more than 2.000 European and transatlantic destinations. Located in the commune of Bron, 10 km southeast of Lyon, the airport is operated by Aéroports de Lyon SA and is currently a private general aviation airport.

History of Lyon Bron Airport
The airport was established in 1920 and in 1924 became an international airport with flights to the Swiss city of Geneva. After the Battle of France in 1940, the use of the airport decreased. During World War II, Nazi forces took control of Bron Airport in November 1942. The port was used as a military airport by the German Luftwaffe since 1943. In April 1944, the United States Army Air Forces bombed the airport, rendering it unusable.
After the Normandy Landing, the airport was again under the control of the allied forces, and the airport was made operational again with the work done. The airport was used by American soldiers until the war ended in 1945. Following the end of the war, Lyon Bron Airport became the main commercial airport for Lyon. In 1950/51, the plan to make the port a NATO base came to the agenda due to the Soviet Union’s Cold War threat, but this plan was not implemented.
In 1975, the airport officially started to serve the city of Lyon, and modernization works were carried out in the port during the 80’s and 90’s. In 2012, Lyon Bron became the first French airport to join the NBAA, the US National Business Aviation Association, and under this agreement, renovation works were carried out in 2015 that provided maintenance services for larger business jets.

Transportation from Lyon Bron Airport to the city center
Located just a few minutes’ walk from Terminals 1 and 2, the Rhônexpress tram allows passengers to reach the airport from Lyon city center in less than 30 minutes. In addition, it is possible to reach 29 cities in Italy, including Turin and Milan, as well as Paris, Grenoble and Marseille, by trains departing from the SNCF train station located at the same point.
BlaBlaCar buses depart from the airport to the city center every 15 minutes for 24 hours, bus tickets can be obtained from kiosks in the port.
There are many private car rental services in the port. It is possible to reach the city center in 30 minutes via the RN 383 main road with these vehicles or a private vehicle. Outside the port, taxis operating with a taximeter wait 24 hours.
