Moshoeshoe I International Airport, built in 1985, is an international airport located near the town of Mazenod, approximately 20 kilometers south of Maseru, the capital of Lesotho.
From the late 1960s to the 1980s, Leabua Jonathan Airport (now Mejametalana Airport), named after Lesotho’s then-Prime Minister Leabua Jonathan (1914-1987), was the country’s international aerodrome. However, this port is now only used for military purposes.
The airport is named after the founding father of the Basotho people, Moshoeshoe I. The port, which is open between 05:00 and 16:00, has two passenger terminals and a cargo terminal. There are two runways suitable for private jet flights in the port. Since Lesotho has not had a state airline since 1997, international flights are mainly operated by South African Airways to Johannesburg. Domestic flights are operated by Mission Aviation Fellowship and Mountain Airways.
