History of of Eindhoven Airport
The airport was established in 1932 as a strip of grass under the name of Welschap Airport. In 1939, the airport was purchased for use by the Air Force, as concerns about a military conflict with Germany grew. The airport was quickly captured and developed by the German forces during the Dutch War. The airport was captured by the US army after a while and it was returned to the Dutch Royal Air Force in 1952.
In 1984, a terminal building was established in the airport area for civil air traffic. After the end of the Cold War, Eindhoven was transformed into a military shipping base.
In 2012, expansion efforts were initiated throughout the airport and various projects were implemented in the following years. The construction of a 4-star hotel by Holiday Inn started in 2018, and was opened in 2019.
Military Facilities
Since July 1, 2007, Eindhoven has been the location of the European Movement Coordination Center (MCCE), which is the merger of the former European Airlift Center (EAC) established by the European Air Group. The MCCE is an organization open to all governments whose membership is recognized by all other participating countries and regulated by a specific legal technical agreement. MCCE’s mission is to coordinate the use of air transport, land transport and air-to-air refueling (AAR) capabilities among participating countries, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of the use of owned or leased assets.
Since September 2010, Eindhoven Airport has been hosting the European Air Transport Command, which consists of seven European countries that share their air military assets under a single operational command.

- Line 20 connects Best train station and Best town to Eindhoven Airport. It also connects the aerodrome to the town of Veldhoven and Eindhoven High-Tech Campus.
- Line 10 connects the Eindhoven train station, the Strijp-T district (connection with the Eindhoven Strijp-S train station), and the Nieuw Acht Industrial Complex and Eindhoven Airport.
Train
