Kinshasa Airport, officially known as N’djili Airport, is an international airport serving the city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The port got its name from the N’djili River, which is located near the city. The Airport, which is the busiest of the four aerodromes in the country, is located approximately 25 km southeast of Kinshasa city centre.

The port serves as a hub for the regional airline Compagnie Africaine d’Aviation. Having 1 terminal building, the airport is the most preferred port for private jet flights for business travel.

History of N’djili Airport

The airport was first opened in 1953. In 1998, N’Djili airport was the site of one of the decisive battles of the Second Congo War. Rebel forces advancing in Kinshasa infiltrated the area around the airport, but were repulsed by Zimbabwean troops and aircraft arriving in support of Laurent Kabila’s government.

A new international terminal was opened in June 2015, capable of serving one million passengers a year.

Transportation from N’djili Airport to the city center

N’djili International Airport’s main entrance is on South Airport Road, accessible from the Airport Junction exit of the A109 motorway (Lubumbashi Road). Passengers can go to and from the airport by bus number 34 or by taxi.
