A brief history of Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport
Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport, which was put into service in 1945, was used for domestic flights until 1970. In the 1970s, the port served as a preparation base for Atlantic maritime reconnaissance patrols. There is no radar available at the airport and it directs all planes by field of view. Although attempts were made to renovate the port in 2010, expansion works could not be started due to lack of budget.
Places to visit in Conakry

The city is experiencing great difficulties in general, water and power shortages occur frequently. Despite all the negativities, there are beauties that must be seen for tourists who plan to visit the city.
Center d’Art Acrobatique Keita Fodeba, where acrobatic shows are held, and the National Museum are among the attractions of the city, although the exhibits are few. Among the must-see places in the city are the Jardin 2 Octobre, which has a peaceful environment despite its playground, the Saint Marie Cathedral serving the city’s Christian population, the Great Mosque built in 1984 with an area of 10.000 people, and the city’s largest market, Madina Market.
Transportation from Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport to the center of Conakry
It takes an average of 10-15 minutes to reach Conakry city center from Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport. Public transport in the city is almost non-existent. Although the taxis at the exit of the port provide 24/7 service, there is no regular taxi network due to insufficient number of vehicles. It is necessary to bargain in advance with the taxis to be traveled.
There are offices of different car rental companies in the port, but there is a risk of not being able to find a car if a pre-flight reservation is not made. Passengers who want to reach the city center by private or rental car can reach the center by following the T.5 road at the exit of the port. However, they need to be careful because there are no traffic lights in the country and traffic rules are not fully followed.
