Chad N’Djamena Private Jet Charter

N’Djaména International Airport is the local and international airport serving the city of N’Djaména, the capital of Chad. It is also called Hassan Djamous International Airport.

The airport is located west of N’Djaména city center, less than three kilometers from the presidential palace. A new airport is planned to be built in the Djermaya region due to its proximity to the city of N’Djaména and separating the capital from the town of Farcha. Moreover, the airport facilities, including the terminal building, are relatively old. N’Djaména Airport is used for private jet flights as there is no alternative in the region.

The airport has a single asphalt runway of 2,800 meters, which as of March 1984 could accommodate all types of aircraft up to Boeing 747s. The runway direction is 05/23, i.e. southwest/northeast. The airport is used for civilian and military use by the Chadian armed forces and the French armed forces, which have stationed aircraft there since 1939. The airport also serves as a hub for the World Food Program’s humanitarian flights to Abeche, Moundou, Sarh, Mao, Ati and Mongo.

Chad N’Djamena Airport history

The airport was built in 1939 as Fort Lamy, a French Air Force base.

On September 20, 1940, the Allies opened an air link between Takoradi in Ghana and Cairo in Egypt. Aircraft, usually from Brazil, stopped at Fort Lamy as a result of Chad coming under Free French control on August 26, 1940. In 1975, when Chad declared independence, the French air force abandoned the airport and it became the main base of the Chadian air force.

Since 1986, the airfield has also hosted a detachment of the French army as part of Operation Epépévier. In 2013, the base was used by the French Air Force in military operations with 8 Rafale aircraft during Operation Serval in Mali and as one of the main bases for Operation Barkhan in the Sahara.

In 2016, around 1,500 personnel, 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets, Puma and Caiman helicopters, as well as transport and refueling aircraft (C-160 Transall, Boeing KC-135, C-130 Hercules) participated in the operation. Operations are being carried out in neighboring Mali and Niger as part of Operation Barkhan to combat militant groups in the south of the Sahara. The entire area is under the control of a French air force colonel. Due to the importance of the operation, the runway is always open, excellent primary radar coverage is provided and other facilities are deployed (military hospital, rescue and fire services, assistance to ATC).

The airport is also home to Su-25, Mi-24 and C-130 Hercules aircraft of the Chadian Air Force.
