The name of the airport, which was opened in 1997 as Edremit Körfez Airport, was changed to Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport in 2012. The airport is located in the south of Edremit, 86 km from Balıkesir city center. Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport, which is classified in the category of civil airport, offers both domestic and international flights.
Operated by the State Airports Authority (DHMI), the airport has a terminal building of 1678 m² and a runway of 3000 × 45 meters. The total usage area of the port is 23.600 m².

History of Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport
The aerodrome, which was opened in Edremit district of Balıkesir in 1997, served only for domestic flights in its first years. The airport, which could not provide adequate service due to the small size of the runway and terminal building build during establishment (Old runway: 2080×30 meters, Terminal building 320 m²), was renovated on June 19, 2010 and opened to service.
The airport was declared a Temporary Border Gate on the same date and opened to international flights. The name of the port, which was named as Edremit Körfez Airport in its establishment, was renamed to Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 11.06.2012 and numbered 3280, with its publication in the Official Gazette dated 28.06.2012 and numbered 28337.
