Adana Şakirpaşa International Airport is an aerodrome serving Adana, Çukurova region and surrounding cities in Turkey. Adana Airport is located in Şakirpaşa, 2,3 km west of Adana city centre. Serving an average of 5,1 million passengers annually, the airport is Turkey’s sixth busiest port. Built for domestic and international flights, the airport consists of two terminal buildings, the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal, a runway and an air traffic control building. History of Adana Sakirpasa Airport
Adana Airport was built on an agricultural land in Şakirpaşa, 2,3 km west of the historical city center. It was put into service as a civil-military airport in 1937 and became a full civilian airport in 1956.
Passenger traffic at Adana Airport has doubled since 2011, breaking a record with 5.630.674 passengers in 2018. Due to the economic recession in Turkey, the total number of passengers decreased by 10 percent in 2019 for the first time in 10 years. There are 436 weekly flights from the airport to 23 routes, connecting the region to 8 destinations in Turkey, 11 destinations in Germany, 3 destinations in the Middle East and Northern Cyprus. The route to the airports in Istanbul is one of the busiest routes in Turkey with 201 weekly departures, almost half of the total flights.

Adana Airport car rental and transportation
Adana Metropolitan Municipality’s local buses numbered 135 and 159 travel from the airport to Seyhan, Çukurova and Sarıçam neighborhoods. Bus number 159 departs every 35 minutes and connects the airport to the old city, the metro (Vilayet station) and Central train station. The last stop of the 159 bus is Kurttepe. Bus number 135 provides hourly service to Balcalı (Çukurova University).
It is possible to reach the city center thanks to many local buses and minibuses moving in the east-west direction on the D400 state road.
Şakirpaşa train station is at a walking distance of 1,9 kilometers from the airport terminals and is located one block north of the D400 state road. There are frequent train services to Mersin Center, Tarsus and Adana Central stations.
Taxi stands on the main road outside the airport are among the alternatives that can be used to reach the city center. In addition, many car rental companies provide service within the airport.
