The airport, which have its name rather frequently mentioned in the press in 2019, especially with its designs made with colorful umbrellas, is preparing to host street arts, which are shared most and available all around the world, on Instagram in 2020. Four important works determined after careful work will adorn the walls of the aerodrome.
Here are the works that will decorate the walls
The street art campaign brings together Colette Miller’s ‘Wings’ from Los Angeles, ‘Floating Taxi’ by Rouge One (Bobby McNamara) from Glasgow, Alice Pasquini’s ‘Above the Lines’ from Rome and Odeith’s ‘Anamorphic Frog’ from Lisbon. These works will grace the walls of Heathrow Airport until summer 2020. Heathrow, which is at the top of the list of the most active airports in the world, plans by making different artistic initiatives every year to surpass South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, which is the leader in this field. Ross Baker, Commercial Manager of Heathrow Airport, which is one of the indispensable routes of private jet flights, states that Heathrow is the front door of England to the world and says that they want those who pass through this door to experience differences beyond a simple airport experience.
Meeting point of different cultures
Baker says that with the campaign on the selected works, they aim to highlight both British and international culture at the airport. Stating that the most shared murals on Instagram all over the world were sorted out after a careful study, Baker says that no matter where we arrive at Heathrow Airport, we sure will find something of our own culture.
Why Instagram posts?
Airport officials state that the combination of art and Instagram was initially regarded as strange. However, according to data from the Fly Research company, the average person from the UK takes 25 selfies a day during their holidays, and the average person who takes 463 photos on each trip spends 43 minutes editing these photos. From this point of view, many people visiting Heathrow Airport will most likely take and share pictures of the world’s leading works of art. In this way, #Heathrow style posts will increase the popularity of the airport.
For those who will not be able to personally visit the works that will be exhibited at Heathrow Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, following #Heathrow on Instagram will be useful. In particular, we can see that many celebrities who come to the airport, where private jets frequently land and take off, share on Instagram the pictures they took in Heathrow.
