Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport is an international airport located on the island of Roatán in the Caribbean Sea, 50 kilometers off the north coast of Honduras. The airport serves the national and international air traffic of the island, nearby cities and the region. The airport was named after Juan Manuel Gálvez (1889-1972), former president of the Republic of Honduras from 1949 to 1952. The airport was previously known as Roatán International Airport.
Although the airport has been in operation since the 1960s, the international terminal was designated in 1993 and first opened in 1995. Remodeled by a Spanish consortium, the airport today hosts both commercial and private traffic, as well as international and domestic flights. The number of flights in and out of the port increases every year as Roatan is fast becoming one of the most visited islands in the entire Caribbean. The airport is managed by InterAirports, S.A.
The airport is 6 meters above mean sea level. It has a runway 07/25 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,090 x 45 meters. The airport is also used for private jet flights to the country.
