Brief history of Sanliurfa GAP Airport
Sanliurfa Airport, located in Sanliurfa and serving from 1988 until 2007, used to be the only airport in the city. When it became clear that the port was insufficient and needed to be renovated, the construction of Sanliurfa GAP Airport was brought to the agenda with a decision taken in 1998. As a result of the studies, a decision was taken to build a new airport in the same year. The construction of the new airport was completed in 9 years, i.e. until 2007, and it was opened in July of the same year. In the year it was opened, it was the airport with the longest runway in Turkey.
