Olbia Airport has the highest number of international passengers in Sardinia. Initially part of the Alisarda S.p.A. group, which already owned the facility, the controlling stake was acquired by the F2i fund, which from October 2020 also controls Alghero airport, giving life to the North Sardinian center.

Italy private jet charter prices

Although Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport air charter fees depend on variables such as the number of passengers, departure airport, flight time, aircraft position, flight date, the prices for private jet charter from Istanbul → Olbia are as follows.

Light Jet

14.950 EUR

Midsize Jet

21.200 EUR

Heavy Jet

27.250 EUR

Light Jet (7 seats), Midsize Jet (8-9 seats), Heavy Jet (10-16 seats)

These prices are average amounts and you can contact us on our flight reservation screen or by phone for the most accurate price information.

History of Sardinia Olbia Airport

The original infrastructure has been in operation since the late 1960s following the decommissioning of the historic Olbia-Venafiorita airport and is now fully integrated into the new air terminal, although some abandoned and disused structures such as the old control tower can still be seen.

The new air terminal at Olbia Airport was inaugurated on June 6, 2004. Work began in 2000 on the extension and renovation of the old building on the basis of a project prepared by the architect Willem Brower and the technical office Geogramma.

The air terminal was expanded to 42,000 m², three times the size of the old building. It is equipped with 40 check-in desks, 15 exits, 5 mobile piers, a large 2,200 m² shopping center with shops and services and is designed to accommodate 4,500,000 passengers per year.

The control tower is approximately 42 meters high and houses the third largest operations room in Italy after Malpensa and Bologna, with an area of 120 m². In the same room, ENAV controllers manage both the Tower Service (TWR) for landings and take-offs and the Approach Radar Service (APP) for aircraft arriving and departing from the airport. Equipped with CDS-1000 radar screens and multifunctional terminals for weather and aviation information, the service has 3 operational stations (tower controller, radar controller/planner and radar controller/administrator), increasing to 4 during the summer period when the highest workload is recorded.

Olbia Airport is equipped with a dedicated radar system, which allows approach radar control of flights arriving and departing from the airport and overflights, thanks to the integration with the radar system controlled by the ENAV area control center in Rome-Ciampino. In addition, two new equipment rooms with a total surface area of about 270 m² were built in the lower tower, housing all useful systems for flight assistance (two-way radios, radar equipment, etc.).

In 2007, Geasar launched a new management plan for Civil Aviation in agreement with its new company Eccelsa Aviation. This entire terminal was allocated to a new dedicated terminal, which was built in conjunction with the airport expansion and opened for the summer season in June 2009. The services of Eccelsa, a company of the Geasar Group, are almost entirely dedicated to general aviation flights related to tourist traffic on the Costa Smeralda.

The airport was closed to passenger air traffic from February 3 to March 14, 2020 for the reconstruction and extension of the runway. During this closure period, during which all incoming and outgoing flights were completely canceled without being diverted to other airports, the airport was connected to Fertilia by buses operated by the Sunlines company, so that Gallura residents could travel to Alghero. During this time, the airport remained open for musical and other events. Originally scheduled to reopen on March 14, 2020, the airport remained closed until the following June 2 as a result of measures taken by the Italian authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Italy. The airport reopened on June 3.

Olbia travel guide

Olbia, located on the island of Sardinia in Italy, is a city with a long list of places to see with its dazzling beaches and historical buildings.

Among the places to visit in the city; Olbia San Paolo Apostolo Church dating back to Roman times, Pedres Castle built in the century to protect the city of Civita, Su Mont’e de s’Abe Giants Cemetery dating back to 1600 BC, Marina Maria Beach, which is described as a hidden paradise by the islanders, Li Cuncheddi Beach, which has a smaller area compared to other beaches with its calm structure, and Zanatta Vineyards spreading over a large area with its fascinating view.

Transportation from Sardinia Olbia Airport to the city center

The airport is connected by motorway to the local highways SS125 and SS729.
