Brief history of Bologna Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airport was opened in 1933 but was located slightly outside the current building. The airport was originally located 500 metres further west, in an area now used for services. This airport, named after Fausto Pesci, remained active until the 1970s, when Guglielmo Marconi opened it, as it became small and inadequate for the city’s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1987, a Concorde F-BVFB from Paris landed in Bologna. The aircraft had been rented by a company from Modena for its employees. On 2 July 1990, both Air France and Lufthansa started daily flights to Paris and Frankfurt. In the summer of 2004, work to extend the airport’s runway extended the runway to 2.8 km.
