Military use by the Belgian Air Component, present at the New Bierset site since 1930, ended only in 2011. Towards the end of the Second World War, the US Air Force also used the airfield, which was named A.93 Airport by the Allies.

In 1930 the first passenger terminal was built. The first aeroplane flew between Brussels, Antwerp and Liège. After the Second World War, Sabena opened a line between Liège and Paris. In 1976, the new civil terminal was inaugurated at the same time as the Liege-London line. In 1988, the Walloon Region decided that the two airports at Liège and Charleroi should become centres of economy, development and regeneration.

On 30 April 1990, Meusinvest founded SAB SA, the airport’s development and promotion arm. In 1996, Israel Cargo Airlines became the first major cargo airline in Liege. In the same year, TNT was contracted to establish a European air cargo hub.

In April 2005, the new passenger terminal was completed. This project, which cost approximately 26 million euros, tripled the airport’s passenger capacity to one million passengers per year. From 2006 to 2010, continuous expansions were carried out. These included the construction of more parking spaces, the installation of a cargo park and an increase in the fuel tank from one million litres to six million litres of paraffin. In 2007, SAB SA decided to change its name to “Liège Airport SA” to better reflect the airport’s international position. In 2010, runway 05R/23L was extended from 3287 metres to 3690 metres. This was to enable wide-body cargo aircraft to take off from here when fully loaded.

Liege travel guide

Liege, which attracts attention with its works of art and architectural structures, is the industrial centre of the country. Airport buses are mainly used by reservation. It is quite difficult to find a seat without a reservation. Line 53 buses passing from the bus stop in front of the airport go directly to the city centre.

There are offices of car rental companies such as Hertz and Europcar inside the airport.

Liege Airport, the most important cargo centre of Belgium and Europe, is also one of the ports used for private jet flights for business travel.

["post-52107","airport","type-airport","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
