Ordu Giresun Airport is a civilian airport built between G\u00fclyal\u0131 district of Ordu and Piraziz district of Giresun. The airport is the first airport project built on the sea in Turkey. The port is operated by the state-owned General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ordu Giresun Airport serves as Domestic and International Terminal within a single terminal building of 20.250 square metres. The idea of an airport on an artificial island for the two Black Sea provinces was first proposed in 1992. Construction work was started in 1994. However, due to high costs, the project stopped shortly afterwards. The government took a second airport project into consideration and plans were worked on between 2008 and 2010. The project was launched on 13 July 2011. The airport opened to traffic on 22 May 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the airport cost 290 million \u20ba. It is planned to serve approximately 2 million passengers per year for Ordu and Giresun provinces with a total population of 1.2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
