Sivas Nuri Demira\u011f Airport was first built in 1957 for military purposes. The port was opened to civil air traffic in 1990 with the 2217 m\u00b2 Terminal building constructed by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport is located on the Merakum hill, 22 km to the northwest of Sivas. The airport is named after M\u00fch\u00fcrz\u00e2de Mehmed Nuri Bey, the most prominent Turkish businessman who in 1923 realised many important projects in the young Turkish Republic, including the first aircraft factory. The port is operated by the state-owned DHMI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the 2007 modernisation works, the new airport terminal was opened in 2010.
