Istanbul Sabiha G\u00f6k\u00e7en International Airport is one of the three international airports serving Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul. The airport was opened on January 8, 2001. In June 2007, the Turkish holding Limak Holding, India GMR Group and Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB) consortium signed a contract for the modernization and maintenance of the airport. In mid-2008, the groundwork was laid to upgrade the international terminal to serve 25 million passengers per year. The new terminal opened on October 31, 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transportation from Sabiha G\u00f6k\u00e7en to central locations is mostly provided by buses. Havabus shuttles depart every 30 minutes between the airport and Kad\u0131k\u00f6y or between Taksim, which is located on the European side of Istanbul. The bus stop is located on the opposite side of the street in front of the arrivals hall. Travel time to the ferry port in Kad\u0131k\u00f6y is at least 40 minutes, and at least 70 minutes to Taksim on the European side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport is 40 km from Kad\u0131k\u00f6y, 12 km from Pendik and 50 km from Taksim Square in Istanbul. Passengers who want to travel by private vehicles can reach the airport via the TEM (E80) highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
