Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, also known as Roissy Airport or simply Roissy, is one of the busiest and most important airports in the world. The airport’s name derives from former French president Charles de Gaulle, who led the Free French Forces during World War II before the constitution of the French Fifth Republic, in which France utilizes today, was established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charles de Gaulle is a massive airport located 16 miles northeast of Paris and covers more than 12,5 square miles. Originally known as A\u00e9roport de Paris Nord (Paris North Airport), the airport, after eight years of reconstruction, has become one of the most striking and modern airports in the world, reopening as Paris-Charles de Gaulle in March 1974. Charles de Gaulle is a world famous aerodrome. Officially it has three terminals, but in reality it appears to be nine. Terminal 2 was originally built specifically for Air France. After its construction, it has been expanded considerably and has become a complex structure with 7 buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many airline companies operate in this expanded terminal. Terminals 2A \u2013 2F are quite close to each other and are at walking distance, but the 2G terminal is located 1,5 miles away from other terminals and can only be accessed by bus transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terminal 1 is built to an avant-garde design, consisting of a ten-story high circular building surrounded by seven satellite buildings, each with four gates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to reach Paris from Charles de Gaulle?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airport is located 45 minutes from the city center. Those who rent a car can go to the city center via the A1 motorway or alternatively the A3 motorway. The journey takes around 40 minutes on average. The aerodrome is the oldest in Europe with its own integrated train system. The high-speed TGV train service goes to central Paris in about 40 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regular airport buses operated by Air France run to central Paris approximately six times an hour, between 05:50 and 23:00. They depart from both Terminals 1 and 2 (a journey time of 40 minutes) and connect Place Charles de Gaulle via Porte Maillot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
